It’s always great to hear wedding bells ringing for couples who have gone through rough times.
Father of four, Rhys Ap Dafydd has been engaged to his fiancee Elaine Griffiths for two years. However, financial troubles caused the couple to cancel their wedding plans previously because he had been laid off from work.
The couple from Machynlleth, England endured the hard times together and now they have lucked their way into a dream wedding. Rhys purchased a Lotto scratchcard on his lunch hour from work last week and he won the big prize – £1,000 every week for a year!
Rhys told the press, “Winning this amount of money and knowing that we will have this every week for the next year is amazing and has lifted the pressure off our family so much. Since getting engaged we have been desperately trying to get married, but the money just wasn’t there to do it. When I first found out I had hit the jackpot I couldn’t believe it. We decided we wanted to get married as soon as possible and we have already booked our dream wedding for 10 weeks’ time.”

Actor Rhys Ifans attempted to ask actress Sienna Miller to marry him last August and December by sending her Welsh text messages and hiding rings. The extravagant methods didn’t work that well with Sienna saying no both times. But her rejections didn’t stop Rhys from asking her a third time.
On her 26th birthday in December, the 39-year-old asked again and this time was a success.
The couple is now reportedly planning a quiet wedding for sometimes this summer.
A source told the UK’s The Daily Mirror,”Rhys is over the moon and finding it hard to keep quiet … he can’t believe she finally said yes.”
The couple, who have been dating for about a year, are currently in Los Angeles where Sienna is filming her new movie GI Joe.

For months, women (and men) around the globe have been gabbing about the upcoming Sex and the City movie slated to be released in May.
Though there was a short teaser clip back in December, now we get our first real glimpse into the movie with the full 2 1/2 minute theatrical trailer that was released recently.
From watching the trailer, you will see that Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is finally set to marry Mr. Big (Chris Noth). But whether they will actually say “I do” remains to be seen.
A couple other interesting notes from the trailer is that Steve (David Eigenberg) reveals to Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) that he cheated on her once. Plus, Charlotte (Kristin Davis) is finally pregnant and of course Samantha (Cynthia Nixon) is also up to her same old tricks.
This is one movie that I can’t wait to see. I loved the HBO series and I hope they did great things with this flick.
Dreamgirls’ Jennifer Hudson co-stars in the movie as Carrie’s assistant. The film is scheduled to release on May 30, 2008.

The bride wore a tiara and the groom wore just a collar and chain as several thousand guests enjoyed an elaborate Hindu wedding between two monkeys.
Monkeys are considered to be holy by India’s Hindu community. The three-year-old male monkey named Manu married his two-year-old bride, Jhumri. The female wore a red sari and a flower tiara.
The wedding ceremony was complete with music, dancing, fireworks and gifts. The bride even received a gold necklace from a local businessman.
“It was a unique experience for me. It was the first time I conducted a marriage between two animals. But I followed all the rituals that I do in human marriages”, priest Daitari Dash told the press .
It just goes to show that what may seem unusual to some is normal and sacred to others. And love is love – even a marriage among monkeys!

750 couples will gather in Pittsburgh on February 10 to renew their wedding vows.
This sold-out event, dubbed “Re-Union: The World’s Largest Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony,” is expected to set the Guinness World Record for the most couples to renew their vows at one time.
The Honorable Luke Ravenstahl will preside over the Sunday evening ceremony.
“This Re-Union event coincides perfectly with the City of Pittsburgh’s 250th anniversary in 2008,” said Mayor Ravenstahl. “I’m absolutely delighted to have the honor of presiding over this special, once-, OK, well maybe in this case, twice-in-a-lifetime occasion.”
The event is completely sold out, and the organizers regret that they cannot accommodate those who have not already registered.
The wedding vow renewal ceremony is the brain child of Kitty Julian, director of marketing for Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History and Pittsburgh 250 Committee Member.
“Besides potentially setting a new world record, this is just an ideal way for couples to celebrate their love in a meaningful and unusual way, and celebrate Pittsburgh’s 250th anniversary themed ‘Reunions and Homecomings.'”
She said the ceremony was purposefully planned to occur near Valentine’s Day, and noted that some women are planning to wear their wedding dresses. Several families are participating together, with parents and their married children, or with siblings and their respective spouses.
The ceremony takes place in the romantic and elegant Carnegie Music Hall, site of about 60 wedding receptions annually.
Couples for the event are being asked to furnish a copy of their marriage certificates. The number of certificates collected will be the determining factor for the attempt to set the Guinness World Record. The current record – 272 couples – was set September 16, 2007, in Sydney, Australia, breaking the previous record of 232 at Orlando Bike Week set in 2002.
In addition to the thrill of potentially setting a new record, the ceremony will be followed by a champagne and wedding cake reception. All couples will receive a commemorative certificate of participation that is suitable for framing, along with a bag full of gifts and special offers.
“Re-Union: The World’s Largest Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony” will take place thanks to major sponsors: TWOgether Pittsburgh , one of the most intensive marriage support initiatives in the Pittsburgh area, Great Western Champagne and radio sponsor Star 100.7 .
Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History is working on the Re-Union event in partnership with VisitPittsburgh , the official tourism and promotion agency for Allegheny County, which is leading the “Reunion 2008 Initiative” of the Pittsburgh 250th Anniversary Celebration.

In case you’ve been so incredibly busy planning your wedding that you haven’t had time to think about anything else (and trust us, we know it happens), we’ve got some wedding related info on your favorite pop tart, Britney Spears.
No, I don’t mean she’s getting married again (at least not just yet). Actually, she just felt like dusting off her old wedding duds. This either means she thought they deserved to be worn more than once, or she’s trying to get Adnan Ghalib to start thinking of marriage.
The pop princess was spotted with her new beau at a Mercedes dealership this past Friday showing off her old wedding dress while purchasing a brand new car. Rumor has it the car is for Ghalib, who has been ‘the only one there’ for Britney since her very public breakdown last week.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think wearing your old wedding dress while buying a brand new (very expensive) car for a guy you barely know is all that level-headed. Britney isn’t really known for being that composed lately, though. Just think about her newest relationship: gossip magazines are reporting that Britney and Adnan are already talking marriage!
Not to be mean, but I really hope we don’t see wedding number three for Brit for a little while. Is it safe to say it’s better not to have married and divorced than to have never married at all? In this case, I think it just might.

Beyonce and Jay-Z have reportedly begun planning their wedding. The couple has been engaged since June, however they hadn’t started doing any planning. I was beginning to think they might be one of those couples that stays engaged forever.
The Globe (I know, not the best source) is reporting that Beyonce has now started to look for venues.
Their source says, “There was a time when Beyonce wanted an enormous fairy-tale wedding, but now she’s a masterminding a smaller party in New York.
“At the moment, she considering either The Carlyle or Peninsula Hotel.”
I love Beyonce! So I can’t wait to see what she does with her wedding. Hopefully we’ll be able to get some details soon on the plans!

As a society, we definitely love weddings. That’s got to be why there are so many movies that have wedding-centered plots, right?
Well, there’s yet another one coming out, and I think it looks hilarious. Really, though, what’s a movie about love if there’s no humor? And furthermore, what’s a marriage without some hilarity? Clearly the theme of this movie is on the right track.
So what is this mystery film? The movie is called 27 Dresses , and it’s scheduled to hit theaters in early 2008. The main character? Katherin Heigl. (Wow! Has she ever been busy!)
Heigl is a bridesmaid in the movie, but a bride in reality, with her own wedding scheduled for Dec. 23. (That’s this Sunday!) A bit of a stretch from real life, though, the movie focuses on Heigl as a character that’s “always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” Hence, the 27 dresses.
Heigl’s character, Jane, is idealistic, romantic and completely selfless. She’s perfectly content playing the bridesmaid role over and over again, even though her own happy ending is nowhere in sight. But when her younger sister Tess captures the heart of Jane’s boss, with whom she is secretly in love, Heigl’s character begins to reconsider her “always-a-bridesmaid” lifestyle.
It certainly seems like it’ll be a hit, but we’ll let you know what we really think when the movie finally debuts in theaters. Until then, though, enjoy the movie’s trailer , over and over and over again!

Katherine Heigl Headed for Wedded Bliss
In just a few days we’ll all get to ooh and aww over Katherine Heigl’s wedding pictures. That is, if she releases them to the public.
She very well may, though, now that she’s gone public with all the fabulous details her big day holds in store. Heigl granted an interview with Access Hollywood to give out some select info about her wedding to singer Josh Kelley just two days before Christmas.
Originally, the Grey’s Anatomy star thought she’d opt for an autumn wedding out east, but since setting the date, the idea of a winter wedding has grown on her.
Heigl also tells Access Hollywood that she and Kelley chose to write their own vows in an attempt to keep things ‘traditional.’ Her musician fiancé isn’t planning on singing his vows, but he is planning a serenade for his bride at their wedding reception.
Katherine talks a lot more about her wedding, from bridesmaid dresses to her guest list, but one thing she didn’t do was tell all about her dress design and designer. It looks like we’ll have to wait to get all the juicy details.
We did get one clue from the interview though: that the dress will give her a classic look, a style she donns often at major Hollywood events. Of her dress, Heigl says, “I picked a dress that I felt worked best for my body. It’s a silhouette. I really love that old Hollywood vibe, so I kind of always stick with that.”
Whatever you wear, Katherine, we’re sure you’ll look beautiful! Congrats on tying the knot!

Superman says “I Do” in Secret Wedding Ceremony
It’s not often we get to read about a 70th anniversary, but here’s a great story out of the United Kingdom.
Marjorie and Jack Laughlin, both 91, of Driffield will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on New Year’s Day.
“We have been together since we were 10-years-old and we have never been apart, except for six years during the war,” Mr. Laughlin told the Driffield Today . “We were childhood sweethearts and we have always worked together.”
The Laughlins were married at the age of 21. Now retired, of course, the couple ran two credit traders shops together in their hometown of Batley in West Yorkshire during their working lives.
They were successful business people and even appointed Mayor and Mayoress of Batley from 1963 to 1964.
What are their anniversary plans this year as they celebrate 70 years of wedded bliss?
“We don’t know how we’re going to celebrate,” said Mr. Laughlin. “I think something is going on here, I have heard rumours, but it has remained a surprise.”
The couple have a daughter, a son, five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Laughlin, here’s to many more!
