Although sleeker wedding dresses are becoming more and more popular as time goes on, sometimes it’s just hard to give up the fantasy of wearing that Cinderella-style dress you imagined you’d wear as a little girl. Something about a fitted top and an oversized, poofy skirt just screams ‘princess,’ doesn’t it?
Well, if you’ve chosen to go the more modern route with your dress, this post isn’t really for you. (Come on now: how silly would a silky, slimming dress look with zillions of layers underneath?!)
If, however, you are going to indulge your long-standing desire to feel like royalty (with the help of a LOT of tulle), you do have a couple of options for making the bottom half of your dress as full as you’d like it to be: hoopskirts and crinolines.
Don’t know which option is best for you? Here’s a little more info on each:
Hoopskirts: You may be thinking these died out a few years after Oklahoma! hit the stages, but they most certainly did not! In fact, many brides use them to give their skirts the full look they were hoping for. An added bonus: hoops keep a lot of material off your legs so you don’t get quite as hot while you’re trekking around trying to get those perfect wedding day photos.
Crinolines: If you don’t really like the idea of adding old school charm with a hoopskirt, using a crinoline with your dress might be a good option. A crinoline is basically tulle that helps add layers under your dress’ layers. If you go with a crinoline, you’ll want to purchase one with a liner, or that tulle will keep you itchy all day long! Of course, you have the option of wearing your crinoline over a hoopskirt, but only go that route if you are looking to have a very, very full skirt!
If you’re still not sure which sounds like the better option, you can always give each a try at your next fitting. Many wedding dress stores and tailors carry hoopskirts and crinolines to help give the most accurate visual. If you want to try either, just go ahead and ask!

Remember you do have to sit down though and a hoop skirt…not the easiest to sit down in! I love the full skirt look though, but not TOO full, it may get uncomfortable and hard to get around, imagine if you had to pee…:)
