Selecting Your Bridal Shoes

Posted on November 6th, 2007 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Attire 7 Comments

When choosing shoes for your wedding day, keep in mind that you are going to be wearing them for up to 12 hours or maybe even longer.

Bridal ShoesDon’t select shoes with extremely high heels or pointy toes. Instead, opt for a comfortable style with a mid to low heel. Kitten heels are a feminine option that are stylish and low.

Many brides are wearing tea length wedding gowns, bringing their shoes to the forefront. Don’t be afraid to add a little color. Bridal shoes come in dyeable fabrics which can be dyed to match your wedding colors. Pastels and even metallics are becoming increasingly more popular.

If you dare, you can even wear bright or jewel-tone colored shoes. However, don’t select footwear that is too eye-catching. You want your guests to be staring at you, not your shoes.

Whether you choose simple flats, designer pumps or even bridal sneakers, as long as you are comfortable and happy, that’s all that matters. After all, it’s your big day!

Man, was I comfortable at our wedding! I am a sandal fanatic, pretty much the only type of shoe I wear. That was the plan for the walking down the aisle, some cute white flip flops to wear. Well it turned out that my dress was WAY too long so I ended up having to wear those platform type sandals that almost made me trip and fall walking down the aisle. Luckily I had a super comfy backup for the reception…SLIPPERS! Yes, that’s right I wore a white, fuzzy, soft, and very comfy pair of slippers that lasted me the rest of the night :)

I was all about sacrificing comfort for fashion on the day of my wedding. And I’m glad I did. My shoes were gorgeous, and surprisingly waaaay more comfortable than I’d expected! In fact, I still take them out just to look at them every now and again. Nerd.

If that makes you a Nerd, then what does it make Melissa who still has her wedding dress hanging prominently in our bedroom window?? We’ve got to blog about that…

I still have my wedding shoes too…and I even wear them when I can get away with it! They looked great with my dress and they actually work well for dressing up in the summer, but they are definitely NOT comfortable. They worked out well for the ceremony and most of the pictures, but we ended up going to the beach for a few shots (I got married in La Jolla) and they didn’t do so well in the sand!

Okay, yes, I do have my wedding dress still hanging in our bedroom window. Is that a crime?! I think of it as decoration now lol, but I don’t know what to do with it! Well, and I really like it, it reminds me of our wedding every day :)
