Subscribe and follow our new weekly blog series on the hit TLC show: Say Yes to the Dress
Today I saw a television preview for an upcoming show called “Say Yes to the Dress”. I’m a sucker for reality TV so it really caught my eye. It focuses on a major dress shop in New York and the women working there. I thought about what it would really be like to work with some of the brides I’ve seen on TV. I don’t think I’d enjoy working in a bridal boutique myself (The term “Bridezilla” comes to mind), but it sure would be fun to watch!
It seems that many Brides are obsessed with “THE DRESS” and believe it has to be perfect on their special day. They use any and all means possible to reach that tier of perfection (i.e. over-spending). When I bought my dress, it didn’t take me long to pick out. I think it was the 3rd or 4th dress I tried on. I guess I may have been one of the lucky few, but I really just think that I was more focused on getting married to my future husband than anything else. Don’t get me wrong, I really loved my dress and I’ve had it hanging up in my bedroom window for a year and a half. It still makes me smile every day. The point I’m trying to make is that there shouldn’t be so much emphasis on having the perfect dress, but on building the perfect marriage.
Some Brides agonize over their wedding day and ignore important details about the marriage they are about to commit too. The average cost of a wedding today is about $25,000 and if you didn’t know that fact, you can pick your jaw up off the floor now. There is certainly nothing wrong with spending that kind of money (or more, if you have it), but trust me when I say it doesn’t have to cost that much to throw an amazing wedding. Our wedding cost us about $10,000, including our honeymoon (a beautiful Alaskan Cruise, I highly recommend it!). We got great deals because we went hunting for them, determined to save money, but that’s another story!
Anyway, back to the point. This reality show is going to be fun to watch. I can’t wait to see all the drama around buying a wedding dress! For those of you out there still in the planning stages, just remember it doesn’t have to be all about the dress or any other one aspect of your wedding. Remember the guy who gave you that beautiful engagement ring and asked you spend the rest of your life with him. He is the reason you’re buying that dress and he’s going to love it whether it costs $100, $1,000, or $10,000.

I agree, the wedding day is all based on the dress. The dress does have to be perfect, but it can be perfect and not costly.

Tashana, I think I have fallen in love with the same dress! In the opening credits, the woman is holding the bottom and twirls. The dress looks very flowing and light.
If anyone knows the designer or where I could also find a picture, please help!

I was hoping someone could tell me who made the dress the bride was wearing on the Lucky In Love episode. She was the one who’s grandfather was watching by internet. Help, I love it.
