5 Things to do With Your Wedding Dress

Bride WindowIf you’re anything like me you absolutely insisted that you needed to buy your wedding dress. Renting a gown was complete nonsense—you want to keep your dress forever!!

Well, even though your wedding dress carries a lot of memories with it, there are many brides who look back on their decision to purchase with regret. Many wedding dresses simply sit in the closet as years pass by until they are one day gotten rid of or forgotten.

There are a few things you can do if you keep your wedding dress and decide you don’t want it anymore years later. Here are just 5 good options to consider:

  1. Donate It: There are many good causes out there that could benefit from your wedding dress donation. Places like Goodwill or Salvation Army would be glad to take it off your hands and sell it for a good cause. You can also check out Making Memories, and help the Brides Against Breast Cancer if you’d rather.
  2. Sell It Yourself: This option might make it a little harder to let your dress go, but if you’re tight on money (especially the first year or two!) selling might be a good option.
  3. Recycle It: No, I don’t mean turn it into your local recycling center. I mean you could turn the fabric into another memorable piece. If you are religious, you could take your dress to a tailor and have the material turned into baptism clothing or a christening gown for one of your children a few years down the road.
  4. Get Sewing: If you’d like to keep your dress as an heirloom that would be a little more visible in your home, you could deconstruct it and turn the material into a quilt. This way you would still have a precious memory to pass on, but it would never have to be resized.
  5. Hold onto It: If you’re the sentimental type and you have no regrets about buying your dress, there’s nothing wrong with keeping it. Maybe one day your daughter, granddaughter, even a niece or would like to wear it and start a family legacy of sorts. If not, you’ll still have an amazing memory from one of the happiest days of your life!

OR….you could hang it up in your windowsill for as long as you want! LoL, my wedding dress has been hanging up in my windowsill since the day after our wedding…that was over a year and a half ago! Still looks beautiful though :)

I donated my dress to someone who couldn’t afford one because of an accident prior to the wedding. That was the greatest feeling, being able to help her that way.
