As Don and Virginia Reed prepare for their 50th Anniversary next week, they reminisce about their fairy tale wedding on national television 50 years ago.
Back in the 1950’s, an NBC TV show, Bride and Groom, would select a couple and fly them to New York City for a lavish wedding, complete with a fabulous honeymoon trip.
In 1957, Virginia Peel’s aunt Ola Mae Moore composed a letter entering Virginia and her fiance Don Reed into the group of hopefuls. And with a stroke of luck, the young couple from a small town in East Texas was selected.
On November 20, 1957, Virginia and Don were married on national TV, beginning their life of wedded bliss. Virginia wore a gorgeous wedding gown that has since been worn by her niece, as well as her two daughters-in-law at their weddings.
What a truly wonderful story! Congratulations to the Don and Virginia as they celebrate their 50th Anniversary.
