Lottery Tickets for Wedding Favors

Posted on November 5th, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Favors 1 Comment

I always find it interesting to see what couples choose as wedding favors. Lottery TicketSome give trinkets, some give candies and others give really cute, functional favors. I went to a wedding last month where the couple gave a scratch off lottery ticket to each guest.

To me, it seemed like they forgot to get favors so they just ran out and got 200 lottery tickets at the last minute. So, what do you think is a dollar lottery ticket a tacky choice in wedding favors? Or it a fun idea to give your guests a chance to win a big prize?

Planning Your Garden Wedding

Posted on August 3rd, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Attire, Wedding Favors, Wedding Flowers, Wedding Food 1 Comment

Garden weddings have become more and more popular in recent years. For couples who love the outdoors, it is simply the perfect opportunity to add a memorable backdrop to your wedding.

When planning a garden wedding, you should incorporate the garden theme into all aspects of the wedding from the decorations to the menu. What you want to have in mind is a classic garden picnic – but on a larger scale.

For tables, consider using large round tables that seat up to ten people. Each table should have an umbrella. The umbrellas should be light in color for fresh and lively appeal. For centerpieces, you can make a decoration that includes both flowers and fruits. To carry the flowers and fruits, consider using something you might find in a garden like a fruit basket or a straw hat. Look for locally grown fruits and flowers.

The food at a garden wedding should be light. Sandwiches, vegetarian dishes, pasta salads and fruit salads work well with a garden wedding. A wedding cake topped with strawberries will match the scenery. In terms of drinks, you should consider having fresh squeezed lemonade, sweet tea and exotic fruit juices to go along with alcohol beverages such as wine spritzers and raspberry martinis.

For music, you should keep it light and bubbly. A single harpist would be appropriate during the ceremony. For the reception, find a DJ or band that has an expertise with light jazz music that will blend into the background.

Plantable Wildflower HeartsThroughout your wedding, don’t be afraid to add as many plants and flowers as you wish. If there are trees to work with at your location, use the trees as natural shade for your wedding party. Trees can also double as built in decorations. If you are using many potted plants and other floral arrangements, after the wedding is over you can donate them to a local retirement home, hospital patients or another organization.

The best wedding favors are seeds or bulbs. Truly Wedding Favors offers these plantable wildflower hearts that are just perfect. These heart shaped, plantable seed packets are available in a choice of pink, lavender, sage green, blue and white. You can slip in a handwritten note to each guest inside the envelope for a personal touch.

When selecting attire for a garden wedding, the bride should wear a more simple wedding gown than for a church wedding. Some brides are even wearing short wedding dresses for outdoor weddings these days.

The groom and his groomsmen should wear light colored suits in linen, beige, grey or green. The bridesmaids should dress accordingly – shorter bridesmaids dresses in light airy fabrics.

For all the women, including the bride, skip the stilettos which can easily sink into the ground. Instead wear ballet flats or chunky heels.

The most important aspect is to have fun with your wedding and enjoy the beauty of our green earth.

Give Back When Shopping With

Posted on June 5th, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Anything Goes, Wedding Favors 3 Comments

I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for ways that I can give back to those in need. I love shopping and philanthropy. So if I can places where I can do both – that’s great. is a fabulous website that allows consumers to shop online for all the things that they would normally buy (even from the brands they would normally choose). However, when making their purchases through (NPSM), a percentage of each purchase goes to charity.

It doesn’t cost you anything extra to use NPSM. You just log on to, choose a charity and start shopping. The retailers on the site determine their contribution level and it varies from retailer to retailer. So you have to read the site to find out the details for a specific retailer.

For example, if you use NPSM to buy wedding favors from Truly Wedding Favors, the contribution level is 7.5%. If you are shopping for wedding stationery, Wedding Paper Divas offers a 5% contribution level. And that’s just the beginning. You can shop for just about anything through – not just wedding stuff. While your checking out Truly take a look at their cheap wedding favors

So, next time you are feeling guilty about wanting to go on a shopping spree – you don’t have to feel bad! Just visit NPSM and you can do good for others while shopping for yourself!

Wedding Favors: Thinking *Inside* the Box?

Posted on February 8th, 2008 by Courtney in Wedding Favors, Wedding Trends 2 Comments

Bride and Groom Wedding Favor BoxesI always thought wedding favors were cute, but a little awkward to give out.

Don’t get me wrong; I love wedding favors—I gave away favors at my wedding and, by golly, my sister will give them away at hers.

What I mean by awkward is, when do you give them to your guests?

If you give out favors as your guests arrive, they’re stuck carting around the cute little trinkets for a few hours. And they might even (gasp!) forget them.

If you wait till the end of your reception to give out favors, though, there’s no guarantee everyone will get one. What about poor grandma who had to take off early to get to her Jazz dance class? Or your dad, who so kindly spent the latter part of your reception making sure all of your presents were packed nicely in your car?

Ok, so maybe I’m being a little drastic here—handing out your favors before or after your reception are both good options, but I think I’ve found an even better one.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could combine your favors (something you want to give out) with something you’ll need to give anyway, like place card holders? Well, surprise of all surprises: you can!

Imagine pairing your favorite wedding favors with a cute little bride and groom that tells your guests where to sit. Or what if you gave the perfect Vegas themed favors for your reception at the Luxor? I’m really falling in love with some of these Coaster wedding favors.

Clearly I’m sold on this little trend, but what do you think? Yay or nay? Tell me; I can take it.
