Choosing Bridal Shoes

Posted on April 9th, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Attire 5 Comments

Filippa Scott Helena Bridal ShoesOn your wedding day, you will be on your feet for a long, long time. Wedding day activities usually start very early in the morning and last well into the night. You don’t want your feet to ache all day, therefore it’s imperative to have a great pair of bridal shoes.

Consider the location of your wedding. For garden and beach weddings, stilettos probably are the best idea. Choose chunkier heels or flats.

You don’t need to stick to white. Metallic sandals are a trendy option. You can also select bridal shoes that are trimmed with rhinestones, gemstones and embellishments.

Here are some top choices in bridal shoes in various price ranges.

Filippa Scott Helena Bridal Shoes
These beautiful designer bridal shoes come with a big price tag - over $300. The white silk satin pump is dyeable, so you can probably change the color and wear them after your wedding day. However, as with any high dollar shoe purchase, make sure you are going to wear them more than once before buying.

Wedding Jewelry - Something Borrowed

Posted on March 29th, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Trends, Wedding Traditions, Wedding Attire 1 Comment

Do you want to add some red carpet glamour to your wedding day? Shannon Nelson at Pierce Mattie Public Relations says that many brides are extending the definition of “something borrowed.”

From Shannon: “Renting a tux is no longer the only thing that is being borrowed for the big day; brides are also taking part in this wedding tradition, but in a whole new way. Just as celebrities don borrowed jewelry and other items for their walk down the red carpet, brides are seeking out retailers who also have a rental option available for their accessory needs. Bag Borrow or Steal is one such retailer that allows jewelry rental from such names as Vera Wang, Miriam Haskell and Chanel to handbags from Rafe New York and Badgley Mischka for as little as $10 a week.”

When wearing glitzy jewelry, it’s essential to wear your hair in an equally glamorous up do. In this video, Joe Carol’s Tolga Ackay creates a gorgeous up do with lots of height and style. He places rose petals into the hair and adds a wonderful tiara.

Garden Delights

Posted on March 11th, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Attire 2 Comments

David’s Bridal Garden DelightsThis spring, David’s Bridal is offering fresh, modern colors and silhouettes in three distinct themes - Garden Delights; Destination: Romance; and Black & White.

Back in January, we told you more about the Destination: Romance theme. Now, here’s the scoop on Garden Delights, straight from David’s Bridal.

Silhouettes: Inspired by an elegant wedding set in a formal topiary garden, this trend encompasses a variety of gowns featuring tailored designs and structured silhouettes. Shapes range from traditional ball gowns to fit-and-flare styles that capture the glamour and elegance of the red carpet. A whimsical strapless trumpet gown in Swiss-dot tulle with lace appliqués and a satin empire band (Style T9359, $699) perfectly illustrates this theme. Brides can even choose from a variety of sleeve options that can be easily added to strapless gowns, creating a unique style that is all their own, without the custom price tag. Key looks for bridesmaids include streamlined designs with long tapered skirts, such as a satin A-line gown with an embellished V-neckline and empire banded waist (Style 82900; $155).

Colors: This season, must-have colors range from pale and soft to rich and dark. New mid-tone shades, including a warm Terracotta, make their way from the runway to the bridal aisle. For a fresh splash of color, brides can accent their gowns with an Apple or Marine sash, or choose classic shades like Cabernet, Champagne, Latte, or Peridot. The new trend in colors makes it easy to coordinate the entire wedding day, starting with the bridal party. To create a look that flatters both their personality and figure, bridesmaids can select from a diverse range of fashionable dresses, such as a sleeveless satin trumpet gown with beaded empire waist and straps (Style F12910; $170), or choose stylish mix and match separates from the Make A Match Collection.

Fabrics: Consistent with the latest ready-to-wear trends, these designs are created with high quality fabrics chosen for their unique structural properties. Contemporary satin faille and lush taffeta provide the basis for beautifully constructed gowns and flattering silhouettes.

Accessories: Geometric shapes offer a new alternative to traditional floral details. Crystal, pearl and rhinestone necklaces take on new proportions with larger, stand-out jewelry taking center stage to complement the clean, structured dresses. Bridal shoes are adorned with bold crystal accents, which also influence handbag designs. Veils are voluminous, featuring multiple layers, and hair jewelry is sculptured and embellished, intended to be worn in sleek and sophisticated hairstyles.

Catering to brides of all shapes and sizes, David’s Bridal recently introduced two special sizing options. For the first time, David’s introduces the Galina Woman Collection, boasting soft, flowing gowns, available up to size 26W, with added support and control for full-figured brides. Petite brides now have more options than ever, with an expanded assortment of petite gowns (Sizes 0P–16P) designed specially to fit the proportions of a petite shape.

David’s Bridal also recently unveiled the db Online Collection, an impressive collection of 15 beautiful new bridal styles, available at www.davidsbridal.com. Dresses start at $99 and are available in both missy sizes (2–16) and David’s Bridal Woman sizes (14W–26W).

With more than 50 years of bridal experience, David’s Bridal features more than 280 locations nationwide. David’s Bridal continues to expand its retail store locations, while maintaining its philosophy of superior quality, value and service. To locate a store nearby, consumers can call 1-877-693-BRIDE or visit www.davidsbridal.com.

The dress pictured is the Swiss-dot tulle trumpet gown (Style T9359) discussed above. The gown comes in ivory or white. It is priced at $699 and features a chapel train.

Top 10 Celebrity Wedding Gowns

Posted on March 3rd, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Celebrity Weddings, Wedding Attire

In the current issue of OK! Magazine, you can find the top ten most beautiful celebrity wedding gowns. From Tori Spelling’s Dolce & Gabbana gown at #10 to Katherine Heigl’s Oscar de la Renta dress at #6, all the way to Vanessa Williams’ beautiful corseted Vera Wang gown at #3, these dresses are all amazing.

But it was Katie Holmes’ silk Armani gown that topped the list at #1.

Also on this video is just a quick glimpse at the Filene’s Basement “Running of the Brides.” This annual sale is held at select Filene’s Basement stores once a year (twice in Boston). During the sale, brides can get designer gowns that are worth up to $10,000 for just $249, $499 and $699.

The brides line up very, very early and when the doors open, they run toward the racks … like the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. In less than a minute the racks are emptied as brides are all over the store in various stages of undress, trying on the gowns.

What mayhem! Looks like fun!

Many grooms think their only choice in wedding attire is a tuxedo. If you want to be a little more original, consider a custom designed suit instead. I know that you probably think that it’s really expensive, but it doesn’t have to be.

DressMonkey offers custom designed suits and blazers to ensure that every man in the bridal party is as stylish as he can possibly be — for significantly less money than what is available off-the-rack.

Ugly Dresses from “27 Dresses”

Posted on February 13th, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Movies, Wedding Attire 3 Comments

Do you want one of the ugly dresses from Katherine Heigl’s “27 Dresses”? I am not sure why anyone would, but check out this post from Edie over at Just A Formality.

27 Dresses

As you can see, some stores are actually now selling some replica styles of the ugly bridemaids dresses that were in the movie. I’m not really sure why anyone would want them, but maybe there’s a market for ugly dresses.

If you want your bridesmaids to look stylish instead of ugly, I’d rather go with one of the fabulous dresses available from Mori Lee.

Below are two of my favorites from the Mori Lee Affairs Bridesmaid Collection, which will have your bridesmaids looking pretty in pink. These dresses are also available in dozens of other colors.

Bridal Jewelry: M. Flynn Accessories

Posted on February 5th, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Vendors, Bridesmaids, Wedding Attire 1 Comment

Beehive Semi-Precious NecklaceM. Flynn is a Boston-based accessories business owned by sisters Megan & Moria Flynn. Three years ago, these two sisters started their own company designing classic jewelry and handbags. They sold their goods to small boutiques around the country and started to garner quite a following.

Since they always made a lot of jewelry for wedding parties, the Flynns decided to make it easier for people around the country to order their items online.

Recently, they opened their new website - mflynnwedding.com, where you can find a terrific collection of earrings, necklaces and bracelets for the bride and her bridemaids.

What I like about their website (in addition to the jewelry being beautiful) is that it allows you to shop by color, as well as by design. This way, it’s easy to find jewelry to match your wedding colors.

If you can’t find what you are looking for on the website, brides can customize their existing styles like the twist necklaces and the freshwater coin pearl collection to match any dress, or they will work with you to create a custom piece.

M. Flynn offers generous bridal discounts for orders of 4 or more pieces:

4-6 pieces - 15% discount
7 or more pieces – 20% discount

Each item is finished with the crystal color of your choice and packed in a beautiful gift box with a jewelry pouch. Monogrammed pouches and engraved tags are also available.

If you are in boston, you can visit M. Flynn Accessories at:

46 Waltham Street, 101
Boston, MA 02118
mflynnstudio.com

If you are anywhere else in the country, visit mflynnwedding.com to check out their fabulous wedding jewelry.

The necklace pictured features blue lace agate and is available for $198.

Destination Romance

Posted on January 18th, 2008 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Attire 1 Comment

David’s BridalThis spring, David’s Bridal is celebrating weddings with fresh, modern colors and cutting edge silhouettes through three unique bridal themes: Garden Delights; Destination: Romance; and Black & White.

With the number of destination weddings on the rise, let’s concentrate on the Desintation: Romance theme. Here are some tips straight from David’s Bridal about silhouettes, colors and fabrics in wedding attire for spring.

Silhouettes - The sunny and warm atmosphere of a Palm Springs poolside is the inspiration for this season’s destination wedding trend. A glamorous waterside wedding can even be achieved at a local venue, evoking the same tropical feeling. Representing a more playful style, gown skirts are short and flirty, reminiscent of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Long and sleek gowns with an informal twist — such as a strapless Goddess A-line style that features a stunning crystal brooch (Style T9389; $399) or a flattering halter gown designed in a uniquely rich burnout fabric (Style EK9343; $499) — showcase a touch of city chic. A coordinated bridal party can be achieved with relaxed, sexy dresses or short and sweet styles.

Colors - This trend boasts two distinctly different color schemes. Fresh, modern hues, including Watermelon, Azalea, Honeydew, and Pool, make for a bright, energetic look that pops. This look is best captured in a halter clip-dot chiffon short dress with charmeuse trim and ruffle skirt (Style F12892; $135). Neutral colors, such as Canary, Chocolate and Honey, provide a contemporary, monochromatic feel, channelling the hues that are key this season.

Fabrics - Shimmering satin and silky charmeuse styles are prevalent, allowing brides to combine a modern feel with an exotic look. Allover lace gowns complement brides of any figure, while textured fabrics such as crinkle chiffon provide a dramatic touch.
Accessories - With an emphasis on short or tea-length gowns for brides and bridal parties, stylish shoes play an important role. Choose colorcoordinated styles or pair metallic shoes with sleek, shiny jewelry, for a stunning look. Veils are long and narrow to highlight the lustrous fabrics, and hair adornments — such as headbands, combs and romantic flowers — lend themselves to less traditional settings.

Whether looking for a style that is classic, glam, sweet, or sophisticated, David’s Bridal offers today’s bride endless opportunities to create the wedding of her dreams with gowns ranging in size from 0–26W, with select styles in 28W and 30W, and prices from $299–$1,200. Bridal party dresses are also available in sizes 2–26, with select styles in sizes 28 and 30, and prices ranging from $105–$180.

David’s also incorporates cutting edge “motion” technology on the product detail pages, allowing brides to see how a dress will move and look from all angles.

With more than 50 years of bridal experience, David’s Bridal understands the importance of providing brides-to-be with a vast selection of exquisitely crafted dresses, available at affordable prices. Today, with more than 280 locations nationwide, David’s Bridal continues to expand its retail store locations, while maintaining its philosophy of superior quality, value and service.
