The average wedding cost in the U.S. is upwards of $25,000. That’s oftentimes more than a couple spends on a new car. Planning such an expensive and important event can be very stressful and sometimes risky.

The couple should consider buying wedding insurance to protect themselves from unforeseen circumstances. Now, I’m not saying that something horrible is going to happen but it’s best to be prepared.

Travelers Insuarance offers a Wedding Protector Plan designed specifically to cover weddings.

“A wedding is a large investment both emotionally and financially,” said Alan Tuvin, vice president of product management for Travelers. “There are a lot of moving parts to a wedding and things can go wrong. It is important to protect such a significant financial investment.”

Their standard policy covers wedding ceremonies and receptions in the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, a U.S. Territory, or aboard a cruise leaving from one of these locations. For an extra premium, they can also cover weddings in the United Kingdom, Mexico, the Caribbean Islands (excluding Cuba and Haiti) and cruise ships leaving from a port within those territories.

Though the policy doesn’t cover if your fiance cancels the wedding, it does cover many other things, including damage or loss of the bridal gown or groom’s tuxedo, lost deposits if vendors go out of business or don’t show up, damaged or lost photos, sudden illness by the bride or groom and many other items.

It’s difficult to imagine cancelling or postponing your wedding, or other wedding day disasters that might happen. But it’s better to be safe than sorry. You can protect yourself for a premium as little as $160.

Even if your wedding is right around the corner, it’s not too late. If your wedding is more than two weeks away, you can sign up for Travelers’ wedding insurance.

To get more information, visit ProtectMyWedding.com and put your mind at ease. You have enough to worry about while planning your wedding.

To get your skin prepared for your wedding day, you need to pamper it with one of the world’s oldest skin care regimens – honey.

Christopher Watt, a licensed aesthetician who cares for some of Hollywood’s top stars, suggests the following homemade honey-based skincare treatments for today’s most common skin problems:

Dry Skin Moisturizer

Makes 2 Applications

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons honey
2 Tablespoons cocoa butter, melted
2 drops bergamont oil (optional)
1 drop lavender oil or tea tree (optional)

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together and apply to clean, dry face. This all-natural moisturizer can be covered and kept in a cabinet, but it will solidify. For a second application, heat in microwave for 10 seconds, stir and apply to skin same as before.

Sweethearts’ Chocolate Honey Body Scrub

For the body, Watt recommends exfoliating and moisturizing with this sweetly soothing therapy:

Makes 2 Applications

Ingredients:

2 cups honey
½ cup grapeseed oil
6 Tablespoons unsweetened chocolate, grated (can be substituted with cocoa powder)
2 cups kosher salt

Directions:

In mixing bowl, combine honey and grapeseed oil. Stir in chocolate and salt, mixing completely. Consistency should be grainy and thick. Apply scrub to skin and gently massage all over body. Remove with warm, damp towels or rinse in shower.

Gentle Honey Cleanser for Acne

Contrary to popular opinion, acne can occur at any age. It is a disorder caused by a bacterial inflammation of the skin’s glands and follicles. Because honey has anti-bacterial properties, Watt recommends washing the face with a honey-based cleanser twice weekly for acne-prone skin:

Makes 1 Applications

Ingredients:

¼ cup honey
1 Tablespoon liquid soap
½ cup glycerin (available at drug and beauty stores)

Directions:

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl until fully blended. Pour onto clean face sponge or soft cloth and gently rub onto face, wash away with warm water and pat face dry.

Purely Honey Face Smoothie for Normal/Combination Skin

Those with normal to combination skin can keep it glowing by pampering it with Watt’s face smoothie:

Makes 1 Application

Ingredients:

¼ cup honey
2 Tablespoons pomegranate juice
Handful of pitted cherries
¼ cup of plain yogurt
½ of a banana (optional)

Directions:

Blend all ingredients together and rub onto clean, dry skin. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes then remove with damp sponges or a soft facial cloth. Pat dry and apply moisturizer.

When planning their wedding, many brides immediately think they should wear their hair in an French twist, classic bun or other elegant up-do. However, the trend has been changing in recent years and many brides, including celebrities such as Eva Longoria and Katie Holmes, are wearing their hair down on their wedding day.

Brides with short hair look great by leaving their hair down in light curls or gentle waves. Brides with longer hair will look stunning by creating long flowing or spiral curls.

Even if you choose to wear your hair down, consider pulling just part of it away from your face in a fancy hair clip. This will keep your beautiful face at the center of attention.

Whatever hairstyle you choose, be sure to try out the hairstyle with your stylist several weeks before your wedding. Bring your veil, tiara or other headpiece that you will be wearing to your wedding to the trial run. This way your stylist will be aware of exactly what they are dealing with and you will know that you are happy with the look.

Don’t create a hairstyle that requires too much maintenance. The last thing that you want to worry about on your wedding day is whether you need more hairspray, your clip is sliding out or your up-do is falling down. If you wear your hair down in a more carefree style, from the walk down the aisle to last dance at the reception, you won’t have to worry about your hair.

If you’d rather have a classic up-do than leave your hair down, watch this video for a simple style that is really beautiful:

On your last night of frivolity as a free woman, you should have a great time with your female friends just like a man does during his bachelor party. That doesn’t necessarily mean a night of strippers and an endless supply of alcohol (though it could). However, you should enjoy yourself and live it up on your last night as a single woman. Just don’t plan your bachelorette party for the night before your wedding, as you may very well end up hung over the next morning.

Rent a Limousine
If you are going to be drinking, you’ll need a designated driver. So you might as well do it in style with a stretch limo. If all the girls pitch in, the cost of limousine for the night won’t be much of a financial burden.

Start Out at the Spa
An all-day retreat at the spa can be just what you need to get the party started. Drink champagne and laugh with your friends as you all get facials, massages, pedicures and the works.

Dinner at an Upscale Restaurant
Begin your evening out at an upscale eatery where you will be waited on hand and foot. Try a restaurant that serves many different courses and lots of wine, such as a French, Greek or Mediterranean restaurant.

Put on Your Dancing Shoes
Head to your favorite night club, where you can dance, laugh and frolic the night away. Oftentimes the bride and her friends will dress with headpieces or hats to show that they are part of a bachelorette barty and bond together as a group.

Stay at a Hotel
Rent a suite at a local hotel and spend the night there with your friends. You can watch movies all night, chow down on room service, play stupid games and chat until dawn.

Get the Stripper
Ask your fiance ahead of time, if he minds you having a stripper at your party. If he gives you the green light, then go ahead and do it. More likely than not, it will be your single friends who really enjoy the stripper more than you do. However if your fiance is uncomfortable with it, don’t make a big deal of it. There’s no reason to cause problems with your future spouse over something so insignificant.

Nonprofitshoppingmall.com is a fabulous website that allows consumers to shop online for all the things that they would normally buy (even from the brands they would normally choose). However, when making their purchases through Nonprofitshoppingmall.com (NPSM), a percentage of each purchase goes to charity.

It doesn’t cost you anything extra to use NPSM.

Have you heard about Canditto? I hadn’t until recently but it’s a really fabulous idea for your wedding.

Canditto allows you to gather all the pictures taken by your guests on THEIR digital cameras during your wedding day. And you don’t even have to do any work!

Canditto is a kiosk that is set up at your wedding reception. During your event, your guest simply walk up, insert their memory card into the kiosk and all the photos which have been taken on that camera in the last eight hours are instantly download into the kiosk.

At the end of the night, you are given a CD that contains all the photos. It’s a great way to get tons of candid pictures from your wedding and reception from your guests’ perspective.

And what’s great about Canditto is that you don’t have to do any of the work. An employee of Canditto will deliver, set up and monitor the kiosk. Then before the end of the night, they’ll have the CD ready.

All you have to do is let your guests know to bring their digital cameras, and then remind them to use the kiosk at the event.

Canditto can also combine the best of your guests’ photographs onto custom USB cards. They’ll be ready by 8:00am the morning after your wedding. So you can give these portable thumb drives as a cool little gift to your guests at brunch the next day.

Currently Canditto is available throughout New England. To learn more about Canditto, visit their website at Canditto.com, where you can watch a video and get further information about this fabulous idea.
