A Rhode Island couple got married at the Honey Dew Donut Shop on Wednesday. “Honey Dew” is a such a fitting name!
Cyndi LaRose and Joseph David Smith decided to exchange wedding vows at the North Kingstown donut shop where they met. The donut baker made the food and a probate judge conducted the ceremony.
But it was the owner Faraq Mohamed and his donut shop that got the couple together. LaRose had been coming to the location for years and noticed Smith when he started coming in to see his niece, who worked behind the counter.
Love blossomed when Mohamed asked them both to help him with an errand a few weeks ago. Two days after that, Smith proposed. The couple was in love and felt no need to wait. They picked out their wedding rings last week and said their “I Do’s” at the Honey Dew on Wednesday.
Good luck to the happy couple!

Flowers are an important part of making your wedding ceremony and reception beautiful. When planning your wedding, you should take time and care in selecting a wedding florist.
Choose several florists in the general vicinity of your ceremony and reception site. If the wedding florist is on the other side of town, they may charge more for delivery. Look in the yellow pages, on wedding websites and ask your friends and families for referrals before narrowing down your list to three or four options.
Set up appointments to meet with each of the florists. Before the appointment time, you should decide the following about your wedding:
- Wedding colors (color of bridesmaids dresses, table linens and other decor)
- Number of attendants
- Total budget for flowers, including delivery charges
When you meet with each florist give them an idea of what you are looking for, but also be open to suggestions. After all, they are the professionals!
A basic package of wedding flowers should include:
- Bridal bouquet
- Bridemaids’ bouquets
- Corsages for mothers, grandmothers and other important women
- Boutonnieres for the groom, groomsmen, fathers, grandfathers and other important men
- Centerpieces for the reception
You may also need a smaller bouquet for the “toss,” flowers for the flower girl, and other floral decorations.
Ask each florist to come up a quote that will meet all your needs. It may also be helpful to ask for a high-end quote if you want to trade out your standard flowers for more exotics, dye flowers to a specific color, or want anything else special.
Once you’ve visited three or four shops and gathered the quotes, ask for a list of references from each. Call previous brides to make sure there were no problems with customer service, delivery, or quality of the flowers.
Now that you are armed with all the information, you can make an informed decision and choose the florist that is right for you!

As the Royal Couple celebrates their 60th wedding anniversary, a couple in Hesston, Kansas prepares to do the same.
Though, they won’t be having a party of hundreds of royal and celebrity guests, Enola and Nelson Dreier are just as noteworthy.
The two were married on November 28, 1947 at Highland Evangelical Reformed Church in Newton, Kansas. Their children, which include three daughters and a son, are hosting a card shower in honor of the event. The couple also has 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Congratulations to the Dreiers! Here’s to many more happy years!

There’s one thing you can’t (and I mean CAN’T) go without on your big day: your wedding cake. It’s the one thing that is typical of every wedding, and yet, there are so many options out there that it’s hard to know where to begin!
Personally, I just went with the flow when it came to my cake. I had heard of this incredibly smooth icing option called fondant, and I let my mother-in-law design an absolutely gorgeous beach-themed, seashell accented wedding cake for my reception. I have absolutely no regrets because my cake was undeniably beautiful, but I certainly wouldn’t have minded if it had tasted just a little bit better. (As it turns out, fondant is a very, VERY gummy type of icing.)
Well, there are definitely a lot of different ways to approach the big wedding cake decision: tasting, reading, comparing, tasting again, but wouldn’t it be nice if you had a little nudge in the right direction to get you started? I thought so.
Well, just so you have a starting point, I thought I’d provide a very nice chart I found that breaks down your many, many icing options, and their various features like flavor, consistency, coloring, etc. Check out this link to the Wilton website to have a look and learn a little bit about your icing options before you make your (littler) big decision!

Usually people get hung up on how young a bride and groom are, not how old. There’s definitely some different opinions on how young is too young to get married, but what about being too old?
Well, they say age brings wisdom, and if so, British couple James Mason, 93, and his 85-year-old bride Peggy Clark are probably the wisest newlyweds out there to date. Believe it or not, though, the couple’s combined age of 178 isn’t quite enough to break any world records: the current record was set in 2002 by a French couple with a combined age of 190 years!
It’s just a little bit out of the ordinary to have such a seasoned couple make the marriage commitment, but to Mason and Clark, their love was just found a little later in life. Clark said she had to make the first move, asking Mason did he “come here often” referring to the Elderly Day Center both resided at. Mason replied, “Every day,” and the couple has been inseparable since. Weeks after they first met, the couple wed on Clark’s 185th birthday.
I guess this just goes to show, you never get too old for some things! Here’s hoping the happy, albeit older, couple have a wonderful marriage and many anniversaries together!

Mediating cat fights between your mother and the florist, between the gay wedding planner and your fiancé (who claims it was a “manly exchange of opinions”) will tire a woman out. Sometimes you need to do something that is wedding related (and thus to-do list worthy) but doesn’t require brain, brawn, or losing chunks of hair. In that spirit, we have your movie guide for a guaranteed cat-fight free night.
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Quote: “I was promised sex. Everybody said it. You’ll be a bridesmaid, you’ll get sex, you’ll be fighting ‘em off. But not so much as a tongue in sight.”
British comedy at its most delightfully deadpan and Hugh Grant at his most floppy-haired. Bonus: Large men performing the Highland Fling. In skirts.
Runaway Bride
Quote: “You’re a cynical, exploitive, mean-hearted creep who wouldn’t know real love if it bit him in the armpit.”
Commitment-phobe Julia Roberts gets as far as the altar before fleeing – four times. Bonus: Joan Cusack and multiple wedding dresses.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Quote: “The only other people we know are Greeks, ’cause Greeks marry Greeks to breed more Greeks, to be loud breeding Greek eaters.”
Toula is Greek. Ian is not. Let the party begin. Bonus: You think your bridesmaid dress is bad.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes celebrated their one year anniversary on Sunday. The couple were married on Saturday, November 18, 2006 in a lavish wedding in Italy.
Though you may think that Tom can be a little eccentric (or just plain weird), they are a very cute couple. People Magazine put together a video compilation about their first year of marriage, which is enjoyable to watch.
You can view it here!
Happy Anniversary TomKat!

If you would like to lose weight or get in shape before your wedding, a healthy diet and consistent exercise program can have you on the road to fitness in no time. Stay away from extreme diets or fasts. By drastically restricting your food intake, you will be more stressed out (as if wedding planning isn’t enough!), leading to headaches, mood swings, and even binge eating.
Rather than a quick weight loss diet, instead eat sensibly and establish a workout routine.
Here are some basic tips to help you get into shape before your wedding day.
Drink a lot of water. Water will help you lose weight, as well as improve the appearance of your skin, nails and hair. Drink 8-10 glasses of water each day.
Eat several small meals. Many women starve themselves throughout the day, then eat a big dinner. Instead you should eat four or five smaller, balanced meals. Try to get 40-45% of your calories from lean protein sources, 35-40% from complex carbohydrates (avoid white sugar and white bread if possible) and 15-25% from healthy fats.
Eat salad made with leafy green vegetables with a tablespoon of non-fat dressing, along with both your lunch and dinner. A salad is a healthy way to fill up, so that you eat less of other foods.
Choose lean meats and other protein-rich foods, such as skinless chicken, white fish, lean beef, tofu and beans. Don’t fry your food in oil and skip the gravy and sauces.
Eat whole grains, which are low in fat and high in fiber. Avoid carbs that are made with white flour and choose those made with bran, wheatgerm, barley and buckwheat.
Eat healthy fats. Though some women try to avoid fats altogether while dieting, that’s not the wise choice. Instead eat foods containing monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat and Omega-3 fatty acids. Monounsaturated fats are found in avocados and most nuts. Eat these foods often, but watch your portion sizes. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in seafood, such as salmon, mackerel, herring, salmon, sardines and tuna. Flaxseed oil, soybean oil and walnuts also contain Omega-3 fatty acids.
Eliminate soda or drink sugar-free soda instead. You should also eat a piece of fruit when you need something sweet rather than a sugary snack.
Learn about portion size. One serving of meat (3 oz.) is the size of a deck of cards. A serving (1/2 cup) of mashed potatoes, rice or pasta is half the size of a baseball. A serving of cheese is the size of four stacked dice. A cup of salad or a medium fruit is about the size of a tennis ball. Are these much smaller than you thought?
Start exercising daily. By adding 30-45 minutes of cardiovascular exercise into your routine every day, you will be well on the road to fitness. Don’t take the elevator when you can take the stairs. Don’t drive when you can walk.
By following these tips, you will be able to develop a sensible diet and fitness plan in order to get in shape for your wedding day. Whatever you do, don’t stress out if you are carrying a little extra weight. After all, beautiful brides come in all shapes and sizes.

Step One: Flattery will get you everywhere. Practice exclaiming, “You look beautiful!” in your bathroom mirror. Check your smile. Is it sincere and gracious? Good. Now, make sure the inflection of your voice conveys the proper punctuation. Too much exclamation point and you risk being thought obnoxious (or drunk), too little and you might sound patronizing. Don’t try to fake the sincerity (it’s difficult, not to mention shaky moral ground), just practice selective vision. Even if she has a large mole growing on the side of her face, one that provides a base camp for several luxurious hairs, she can still look nice in a pantsuit. Or macramé vest.
Step Two: Ask questions. People like talking about themselves even more than they like the proverbial smoke up the rear. If you’re subjected to a forty-minute treatise on the state of her bunions, complete with pie chart, so be it. If it’s a dissertation on her many accomplishments as the first female heart surgeon in Michigan – while you’re still working at a bookstore (and not even the good one with the cappuccinos) – accept your lot. Smile, nod, and listen, even if you’re dying a bit inside.
There is always some common ground. Somewhere. Find it and cling. And if you happen to love your mother-in-law, revel in it – especially if you don’t have to ponder the gentle waving of her chin hair.
